RECORD TURNOUT POSSIBLE
The polls have opened on what could be a record-setting election day in Kentucky. Les Fugate, a spokesman for the Kentucky Secretary of State's office, said turnout on Tuesday is predicted to be 65-70 percent. A record 2.9 million Kentuckians are registered to vote, up from about 2.8 million people in the 2004 presidential election. That year, nearly 65 percent of them voted, according to the State Board of Elections. Fugate says if turnout matches expectations, it would mean a record number of voters took part in the election. Also, voters in 34 counties will use new "eScan" voting machines, which give users a verified paper record of their selections, for the first time in a general election this year.

GOVERNOR HOPES STATE CONSIDERS EARLY VOTING
Governor Steve Beshear says he's voting today near his Clark County farm, but he hopes that someday Kentucky considers enacting some early voting laws. Early voting is now permitted in dozens of states and this year millions of people have taken advantage of those laws to vote before election day. Early voting helps avoid some of he long lines on election day.

FRAUD HOTLINE AVAILABLE
Kentucky voters can reports irregularities they might encounter today. Attorney General Jack Conway says the Election Fraud Hotline is staffed all day today. The number is s 1-800-328-VOTE (8683). Staff attorneys take the calls, screen the complaints, then pass them on to Kentucky State Police and other agencies for investigation.

TWO NEW CALLOWAY PRECINCTS
In Calloway County there are two new precincts bringing the county total to 30. Murray 13 will vote at Westside Baptist Church and Murray 14 at Martin's Chapel United Methodist. Both are city precincts made which were needed due to annexation. In Calloway County, there are 24,759 registered voters in the county. 16,708 are registered Democrats, and 6,211 registered Republicans, and 1840 are registered as something else. Secretary of State Trey Grayson urges voters to vote at off "peak times" if possible. Traditionally most people vote before work at the lunch break or after work. END OF THE ROAD FOR CITY OF LONE OAK?
Tuesday’s election could see the dissolution of Lone Oak. The estimated 175 residents of the half-square mile city would still owe property taxes from 2008 with the proceeds going to the county.

CALLOWAY MIDDLE TAKES FOURTH
Calloway County Middle School competed at the Henderson County Cadet Bowl for middle school academic teams. The Lakers came away with a fourth place overall finish, sixth place in quick recall, and four team members finishing in the top ten of their subject area. Calloway was up against many middle schools who consistently finish in the top five at the state tournament.

ROCK HUNT SATURDAY
On Saturday from 9 to 3 youth and families are going to explore the great outdoors with a Rock Hunt and Geo-caching event at LBL.  Items to bring include: a digging tool. bucket or sturdy duffle bag, sack lunch, and a spirit of adventure.  If raining or muddy, Rock Hunt will be rescheduled.  Call to sign up by November 7. LBL TO HONOR VETERANS
Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area will honor our nation’s veterans on Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, with a one-day free entrance or user fee waiver at designated facilities. Land Between The Lakes will offer veterans, active and retired members of the armed forces, and their families free entrance into the Elk & Bison Prairie, and fees will be waived for Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle Area vehicle permits and Wranglers Campground daily trailer permits.  

ARREST MADE IN MAYFIELD SHOOTING
A man is dead, a man is wounded, and a suspect is under arrest.  Mayfield police have arrested 25-year-old Cortes T. Thornton. Thornton is charged with attempted murder and a separate charge of trafficking a controlled substance. The arrest comes after a shooting outside of a club that left  29-year-old Edward Tyrone Hendricks dead 32-year-old David Benjamin seriously wounded. Benjamin was rushed to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville his condition is not known.

ACROSS KENTUCKY
Daniel Wallace has died in Afghanistan. Twenty-seven-year-old Sergeant Daniel Wallace of Dry Ridge is a Kentucky Army National Guard soldier. He was killed in a Taliban gunfight. The governor indicates flags will be lowered to half staff on the day of his funeral. Guard officials say funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Flags are flying at half-staff at all state office buildings through Wednesday. That's the day that funeral services will be held for Jim Bruce. Bruce died in Hopkinsville over the weekend. He represented the state's 9th House District for 42 years from 1964-2006. Funeral services will be Wednesday in Hopkinsville. Governor Beshear directed the flag honor for the long serving lawmaker.

Armed with a handgun and wearing a see through clown mask a man held up a Fifth Third Bank in Lexington on Monday. The man wearing a blonde wig demanded money then fled. There were no injuries. Police have releases surveillance video and are trying to determine if the same robber may have held up other Lexington banks.

Circuit City is closing several Kentucky stores as part of it's downsizing. The electronic retailer is closing 155 of it's stores nationwide. Circuit City is closing one store in Lexington, one in Louisville and one in Paducah.
