9-1-1 TEST TODAY
Calloway County Emergency Management will be conducting a test of a new 911 public-alert system via landline telephones to county residents and businesses this morning around 10am that will say, "This is a test… This only a test." The test will affect both the city and the rural areas, as well as selected areas that will test the system's capability in alerting only a single neighborhood. Cell phones will not be called during today's test, but those can be added later if the Fiscal Court buys the system.

NEW YEAR'S EVE HOURS ON COUNCIL COMMITTEE AGENDA
The Murray City Council meets in regular session tonight. There will be a Public Safety Committee meeting tonight at 530 concerning extending hours on New Years Eve for area restaurants. This meeting will be before the City Council meeting at 630. The City council plans to recognize Velvet Milkman for her work in Make a Difference Day activities. In addition to that there will be readings of ordinances concerning the historic overlay district and fund appropriation for repairs to city hall. The City council is also expected to reappoint Sam Underwood to the code enforcement board and Chuck Foster to the Murray Calloway County Park Board.

SHOEBOX PROJECT BEGINS MONDAY
Murray Hopes to Collect 1,000 Gift-Filled Shoe Boxes for World’s Largest Christmas Project. Local volunteers are collecting simple shoe box gifts personally packed by hundreds of children, families, and individuals across the city. From Murray, the shoe box gifts will be sorted and sent using whatever means necessary to reach suffering children around the world. Gifts will be collected November 17-24 at First Presbyterian Church. Suggested items for shoe boxes are school supplies, toys, necessity items, candy and a letter of encouragement. DUNLAP INDICTED FOR MURDER
Yesterday, a Grand Jury in Trigg County heard testimony regarding the brutal murder of three children and attempted murder of their mother in Roaring Spring that occurred on October 15.  After hearing details surrounding the investigation, the Grand Jury indicted Kevin Dunlap on multiple charges of 3 counts of Capital Murder, Attempted Murder, 4 counts of Kidnapping 3 of which are Capital Offenses, Rape, Arson, Burglary and 3 counts of Tampering with Physical Evidence. An arraignment date in Trigg Circuit Court has not been scheduled at this time.

I-24 STOP LEADS TO ARREST
A traffic stop on I-24 which was initiated due to the operator was not wearing a seat belt lead to a further investigation in which 67 units of lora-tabs, were found hidden in the vehicle.  Jonathan Ogden of Union City was placed under arrest and lodged in the Caldwell County Jail on charges of trafficking. 

AMISH IN COURT AGAIN
The western Kentucky Amish community is back in court for refusing to display slow-moving vehicle emblems on their buggies which they believe is a slight on their beliefs. Of the nine being tried some were found guilty in an earlier trial and fined $20 each plus court costs.

PADUCAH MAN CHARGED WITH CHILD SEX ABUSE
A Paducah man has been charged after having inappropriate sexual contact with a 13-year-old child who lives in his neighborhood. Daniel Trovillion admitted to inappropriately touching the girl in an interview that stemmed from an investigation of reported inappropriate contact between 47-year-old Trovillion and the girl.

INDIAN NIGHT IS FRIDAY
Indian Nite, a celebration of traditions and culture presented by the Indian Student Association at Murray State University, will be held Friday at the MSU Curris Center. The event will begin at 6 p.m. in the ballroom. All proceeds raised will benefit ISA’s Be-the-Change initiatives, specifically the Backpack Program, the organization’s designated community service project for this school term. A selection of Indian style food will be available. Highlights of Indian Nite will include a presentation on India with traditional dress, songs and dance. Tickets to the event will be available at the door and are $8 for the general public and $6 for MSU students with a valid I.D.

SHIN TO PLAY SUNDAY
Dr. Jung-Won Shin will present a solo piano recital on Sunday at 3:30. The recital will take place in the Performing Arts Hall on the campus of Murray State University. Works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Bolcom and Chopin will be featured. Admission is free. She has been featured as soloist at a Beethoven Piano Sonata Recital Series at Yamaha Artists Services in New York.

ACROSS KENTUCKY
A Kentucky State Police detective and a Richmond Police detective were involved in a shooting. A man is wounded and in the hospital this morning, his injuries are not considered life threatening. Officers were acting on a search warrant when they spotted a suspects vehicle at a service station. When they approached the suspect and identified themselves he fled. Officers say his vehicle struck one of the officers and they opened fire. The officer received minor injuries to his knee.

A Kentucky State trooper stopped a pickup truck in Scott County when he noticed the driver wasn't wearing a seat belt. Trooper Derran Broyles says the strong smell of marijuana prompted further investigation. Officers discovered three pounds of marijuana in the truck, driver Francisco Gonzalez faces a variety of charges.

There's a move to move the legal drop age in Kentucky from sixteen to eighteen-years-old. A coalition of child advocates and other groups are pushing for the change, it's part of their "Blueprint for Kentucky Children." The proposals also calls for more money to keep children in their homes instead of foster care.

Electric cars may now be legally registered in Kentucky. Transportation Secretary Joe Prather has signed an administrative order that all "alternative electric vehicles" be registered and titled like other vehicles. This is a first in Kentucky. The electric car operators must have a standard operators permit and must operate the vehicles only on roadways with a speed limit of 45-miles-per hour or less.

A new air carrier is scheduling some service out of Owensboro. Allegiant Air will begin non-stop Owensboro to Orlando service in February. The Las-Vegas based carrier will have flights on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Its the first commercial jet service to ever use the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport.

Glasgow Police are searching for a robber. A man with a handgun held up an attendant at the Swifty gas station. The attendant handed over the cash, the robber fled. There were no injuries.
