Racer football players begin reporting this weekend, and practice begins next week.  Even though the Racers have two Bowl Division games and play all three title contenders on the road, I feel we will see marked improvement in the record as well as the competitiveness this season.  Matt Griffin and Alan Ward are building a program the right way, and to do that you have to expect some growing pains.  We are past those, and by next season, the Racers will at the very least, contend for an OVC Football Title.

Billy Kennedy continues trying to hammer out a couple of final home games on this year's schedule.  An exempt tournament trip to Puerto Rico is not a done deal at this point since the projected eight team tournement is down to a four team tilt with no marquee names.

I'm not sure if they have considered it, but what about nearby Mid-Continent University in Mayfield?  With local players dotting the roster, my guess is that fans had rather see us play them than a Lyon College or Avila, even though the competition may not be to that level.

I'm still wondering about the Titans.  Do they have the receivers it takes to improve the offense?  Last year was touted the year the D returned, but the offense was so bad that they had little choice.  Most Sundays, you always knew that if they gave up 28 or more points, you could put a fork in em.

As the trade deadline nears, you gotta wonder:  Will the Cardinals make a significant deal?  Under Walt Jocketty, he usually would pull a rabbit out of the hat, even though it was usually NOT a mega star.  All eyes are on Mozy, but maybe his best move would be: nothing.  Chris Carpenter returns to the rotation Wednesday and Adam Wainwright begins a rehab assignment it may be back in 3 weeks or so.  Still, it would be great to get a solid arm or two for the bullpen, which has been the demise of this team so far.  Honestly, I have no idea how they are staying in the hunt, but I am glad they are.
