CROMPTON TO START FOR VOLS

Tennessee Vols coach Phillip Fulmer says he will start junior Jonathan Crompton at quarterback this Saturday against Vanderbilt. Crompton started the first four games of the season, before giving way to sophomore Nick Stephens. Fulmer also says freshman B. J. Coleman has been working as number two quarterback in practice. Following an off week, Fulmer says he expects everybody to be ready to play Saturday. The 3-and-7 Vols must win their final two games to avoid becoming the first Vols team in history to lose eight games in a season. Fulmer recently agreed to resign as coach at the end of the season.

Dallas Mavericks billionaire owner Mark Cuban has been charged with insider
trading by the Securities and Exchange Commission. The outspoken and
controversial Cuban, who made his fortune as an Internet entrepreneur, is
being targeted for illegal trading of Mamma.com stock. According to the
complaint, the SEC has alleged Cuban was aware of a public announcement for a
financing plan and that his shares would be sold below market price, therefore
ordered his broker to sell all shares in the search engine company. By selling
his stake before the public announcement, the SEC said Cuban avoided more than
$750,000 in losses. The 50-year-old Cuban owns the Mavericks, HDNet, a
national high-definition television network, and Landmark Theaters. He has
also been rumored to be interested in purchasing a stake in Major League
Baseball's Chicago Cubs.

Week 11 of the NFL season concludes tonight in western New York, as the
Buffalo Bills host the Cleveland Browns in a desperation matchup for both
teams. The Bills are 5-4 with a three-game losing streak, and another setback
would put them in the AFC East basement. A win, however, would keep Buffalo
tied with New England and Miami for second place in the division, just one
game behind the first-place New York Jets. The Browns, with quarterback Brady
Quinn set to make his second start, are 3-6 and need a win to keep any
flickering playoff hopes they might have alive.

The Tennessee Titans continued their excellent season and stayed perfect with
a 24-14 triumph over the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Titans had to overcome an
11-point halftime deficit, but improved their record to 10-0 for the first
time in franchise history. Kerry Collins and Justin Gage connected on a pair
of long touchdowns for Tennessee, as Collins completed 13-of-23 passes for 230
yards with three TDs. Tennessee also extended a franchise-record with 13
straight regular-season wins dating back to December 16 of last season and
notched its seventh straight road victory in the process. Maurice Jones-Drew
gained 66 yards on 17 carries and scored both touchdowns for the Jags (4-6).

===

The New York Giants and Baltimore Ravens both entered Sunday's game with four-
game winning streaks, but the Giants were able to continue their run by
powering their way to a 30-10 pounding of the Ravens. Brandon Jacobs gained 73
yards on 11 carries with two touchdowns on the ground, while Ahmad Bradshaw
gained 96 yards on nine carries for the Giants (9-1), whose lone loss of the
season came on October 13 at Cleveland. It is their best 10-game start since
1990, when the Giants were 10-0 on the way to winning the Super Bowl. Eli
Manning completed 13-of-23 passes for 153 yards with one touchdown and one
interception, and Aaron Ross returned a tipped pass 50 yards for a touchdown
for New York. Joe Flacco completed 20-of-33 passes for 164 yards with one
touchdown and two interceptions for the Ravens (6-4).

===

Tony Romo returned to the Cowboys' lineup after a three-game absence and led
Dallas to a 14-10 win over division rival Washington. Romo, playing with a
heavy bandage over a broken pinkie on his throwing hand, threw to Martellus
Bennett for the eventual game-winning touchdown in the fourth quarter. He
finished with 198 yards and two interceptions on 19-of-27 passes for Dallas
(6-4), while Marion Barber did much of the heavy lifting, rushing for a TD and
114 yards on 24 carries. Washington (6-4) had the presence of Clinton Portis
in the lineup, as the hobbled running back ran for 68 yards on 15 carries in
the loss. He was a game-time decision after suffering a sprained MCL in
his left knee in a November 3 loss to Pittsburgh. But the Redskins went on to
lose, as Jason Campbell threw for a mediocre 162 yards with a touchdown and an
interception on 22-of-34 efficiency.

===

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers activated running back Carnell "Cadillac" Williams
off the physically unable to perform list earlier in the week, but the former
first-round draft pick missed Sunday's 19-13 win over the Minnesota
Vikings. His potential return will be especially welcomed as in the same
contest, Bucs running back Earnest Graham left with a right ankle injury and
did not return. Williams has not played an NFL game since September 30, 2007
when he suffered a torn patellar tendon in a contest against Carolina. He
returned to practice late last month after an arduous recovery and rehab.
Graham leads the team with 560 yards and four touchdowns, while Warrick Dunn
has chipped in 423 yards and one score. Selected with the fifth overall pick
of the 2005 NFL draft, Williams has rushed for 2,184 yards and 10 touchdowns
in 32 games. The Auburn product ran for 1,178 yards as a rookie in 2005.

===

Oakland Raiders running back Darren McFadden was active for Sunday's
17-15 loss to the Miami Dolphins. McFadden, who was the No. 4 overall pick
in the 2008 NFL draft, ran for just 13 yards in limited time. He missed the
last three games after being hampered by a turf toe injury. He last played
against the Jets, when the Raiders won, 16-13, and rushed for 39 yards on
eight carries while gaining 50 yards through the air on three catches. The
21-year-old McFadden has rushed for 341 yards and one touchdown this
season, while also registering 10 receptions for 93 yards in his rookie
campaign.

With the Titans still undefeated, the Lions (0-10) still winless after falling
31-22 to Carolina on Sunday, and Giants still tops in the NFC, the football
world turns its eyes to the Monday night matchup -- Cleveland at Buffalo.
Browns quarterback Brady Quinn was unable to engineer a win in his first NFL
start two Thursdays ago, a 34-30 setback to Denver, but he will get another
shot against the Bills. Cleveland (3-6) has dropped two in a row and aims to
avoid another three-game losing streak; the Browns opened the season with
three straight losses. Buffalo (5-4), meanwhile, finds itself in something of
a must-win position. A win would keep the Bills tied with Miami and New
England for second in the AFC East, one game behind the Jets. A loss would put
Buffalo in last place by itself. The Bills opened the season 5-1, but have
since lost three in a row.

=== COLLEGE FOOTBALL ===

Syracuse University head football coach Greg Robinson has been fired, the
school announced Sunday. Director of athletics Dr. Daryl Gross made the
announcement a day after Syracuse lost 39-14 to Connecticut, dropping the
Orange's record to 2-8. Robinson will continue coaching until the end of the
season, Gross said in a statement. Gross said Syracuse the search for the
school's next head coach will begin immediately. Robinson was hired in 2005 to
replace Paul Pasqualoni, who in 14 years with Syracuse guided teams to a
107-59-1 record and had just one losing season -- a 4-8 mark in 2002.
By contrast, Robinson-led Syracuse teams have gone 9-36 and have never posted
a .500 season.

Alabama and Texas Tech remained Nos. 1 and 2, respectively, in the latest Bowl
Championship Series poll, as there was no change to the top nine spots.
The Crimson Tide (.9787) beat Mississippi State on Saturday to stay
undefeated and in the top spot. Alabama is off next weekend before playing
Auburn in the annual Iron Bowl on November 29, then heading to the SEC title
game against BCS No. 4 Florida (.8755). Texas Tech (.9698) was idle this
weekend ahead of this upcoming Saturday's contest with BCS No. 5 Oklahoma
(.8388) in Norman. The contest figures to be a high-octane affair, as Texas
Tech is averaging 47.9 points per game and Oklahoma is putting up 51.4 points
per contest this season. Texas (.8911) remained in the third spot, while
Southern California (.7873) stayed in the No. 6 spot. Utah (.7643) remained
the highest-ranked school from a non-BCS conference at No. 7, while Penn State
(.6957) and Boise State (.6559) remained Nos. 8 and 9, respectively. The only
change in the top-10 was Ohio State (.6154), which moved into the 10th spot as
Georgia (.6129) moved down a spot.

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired defenseman Philippe Boucher from the Dallas
Stars for veteran defenseman Darryl Sydor on Sunday. Boucher has three assists
in 16 games with the Stars this season, his sixth with the club. A 16-year
pro, the native of Quebec has 91 goals, 294 points and 678 penalty minutes in
723 career games with the Sabres, Kings and Stars. Sydor recorded one goal and
two points in eight games for the Pens this season, his second with
Pittsburgh. The 36-year-old returns to Dallas for his third try with the
franchise, after spending two prior stints (1996-03; 2006-07) with the Stars,
including a Stanley Cup in 1999. A former first-round pick of the Kings, Sydor
has collected 96 goals and 486 points in 1,179 contests with Los Angeles,
Dallas, Tampa Bay, Columbus and Pittsburgh. Coming into Sunday, the Stars are
tied with the Calgary Flames for most goals allowed in the Western Conference
with 62.

Jimmie Johnson became the second driver in NASCAR's 60-year history to win
three consecutive Cup championships. Johnson finished 15th in Sunday's season-
ending Ford 400 at the Homestead- Miami Speedway to join Cale Yarborough as
the only drivers to accomplish the feat. Carl Edwards, who trailed Johnson by
141 points entering the race, gambled on fuel late in the race as he "coasted"
his way to victory, his series-leading ninth of the season. All Johnson had to
do to clinch the title was finish 36th or better regardless of Edwards'
performance. Kevin Harvick finished second, and Jamie McMurray was third. Jeff
Gordon and Clint Bowyer rounded out the top-five.

Australian Open winner Novak Djokovic defeated Russian star Nikolay Davydenko
in straight sets on Sunday to capture the championship at the 2008 Tennis
Masters Cup. The second-seeded Djokovic handled the fourth-seeded Davydenko
6-1, 7-5 on Day 8 at Shanghai's Qi Zhong Stadium. The 21-year-old Djokovic
prevailed in 1 hour, 42 minutes, as he broke Davydenko's serve four times,
compared to only one break for the 27-year-old loser. The world No. 3 Serbian
Djokovic is now 2-1 lifetime against the world No. 5 Davydenko, with all three
meetings coming this year. The speedy Russian prevailed in a Davis Cup bout
earlier in the season. Djokovic captured his first-ever major title at the
Aussie Open back in January. He went 64-17 this year and captured a bronze
medal at the Olympic Games here in China. The 6-foot-3 Djokovic pocketed $1.24
million this week, while Davydenko settled for $615,000 at this exclusive
$4.45 million tournament.
