DUNBAR CLAIMS BAND TITLE AT MSU
Murray State University's Stewart Stadiium hosted the Bands of America Regional Championships Saturday, featuring 20 bands from five states, including the Murray High Tiger Band, and an exhibition performance by the Murray State Racer Band. Lexington Dunbar took top honors at the contest with Adair County finishing second .

MHS SENIORS HONORED
Murray High Soccer players Sydney Smith and Alex Adams were recently recognized as the winning recipients of the All A State Soccer Tournament Essay competition. This is the second time MHS seniors have won both the boys’ and girls’ soccer essay competition. Each received a $500 scholarship stipend for being named the winning recipients. Open to all Kentucky High School seniors, the soccer essay and art contest is conducted to ensure the All-A tournament is an educational and athletic experience for all participants. This All-A essay competition is hosted for student athletes across the Commonwealth to experience a total educational and athletic experience for all participants. MHS principal Teresa Speed, said she commends Smith and Adams on this state-wide recognition.

DEER IN ROAD CAUSES 2-CAR ACCIDENT
Five people were hospitalized last night following a two car accident in Graves County. According to Kentucky State Police, a vehicle driven by 18-year old Jimmy Travis Jr. of Dukedom was eastbound on Kentucky 94 near the Cuba community when a deer entered road. Travis swerved to miss the deer and collided with 47-year old Fred Seavers of Water Valley who had entered a ditch in an attempt to avoid the collision. Travis vehicle was fully engulfed in fire and was in close proximity to the Seavers vehicle. The occupants of Seavers' vehicle were entrapped and extricated by a passerby. Travis and Seavers were trasported to Vanderbilt Hospital with multiple injuuries. Travis passengers were also hospitalized. 18-year old Daniel Puckett was taken to Western Baptist Hospital, and 16-year old Kelly Holten was taken to Lourdes. 46-year old Brenda Seavers was taken to Murray Calloway County Hospital.

LANE RESTRICTIONS ON I-24
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to restrict traffic to one lane on Interstate 24 at the US 41-A Interchange today. The lane restriction is to allow repairs to the US 41-A overpass deck. The right-hand or driving lane will be closed on I-24 at about the 86 mile marker.  All eastbound I-24 traffic will be moved to the left-hand or passing lane at the Exit 86 Interchange. The lane restriction will mean motorists traveling Southbound on US 41-A taking the ramp to I-24 Eastbound lanes will have a limited merge zone during this work. This work should take about a week.

DOG GONE:  WALLETS STOLEN FROM GREYHOUND PLAYERS
Wallets and cell phones were among items stolen from players on the Reidland High School football team during their game Friday night against Muhlenberg South High School. Authorities are compiling a detailed list to be added to the filed police report by today. Reidland's Principal says it appears there was a misunderstanding about how well guarded the locker rooms would be during the game Friday night.

NO ROOM AT THE INN
Police detectives Thursday executed a search warrant on the Executive inn in Paducah taking computers and records related to room reservations for next year’s quilt show. The reservations are believed to out number the rooms available by more than 60, and authorities question the use of the money collected for the deposits. Bill Parsons, has said in the past that he will honor all the reservations for the quilt show, but wasn't aware of the overbooking. The hotel has been closed close to a month due to non-payment issues and the power being shut off. There are several employees that claim that they have not been paid and that the premiums they had been paying was never received be the provider.

PADUCAH BEING SUED
Paducah's Human Rights Director, Stan Beauchamp, has filed a lawsuit in federal court suing the city and City Manager Jim Zumwalt claiming his civil rights was violated in the handling of the city's budget. It details Zumwalt’s annual budget recommendations, regarding the cutting of budgets and full time jobs with the Paducah human rights commission. A month earlier, Zumwalt recommended to the city commission cutting the agency's $105,000 funding because the commission's services duplicated the state and federal commission's services and that the workload was not heavy enough to have a full-time staff.

FANCY FARM HAS BOIL ORDER
Mayfield Electric and Water says there is a boil water order that remains in effect until further notice for the Fancy Farm Water District on Highway 339 North from Highway 1213 to State Route 121.

BURN BAN EXTENDED
The Kentucky Division of Forestry has issued a burning ban for western Kentucky. The ban covers 13 counties , officials say conditions are so dry a spark could start a major fire. Meanwhile, on the other side of the state it's expected that more than 500-acres will have burned by the time a fire at the River Gorge has burned it's itself out. The ban could be eased in west Kentucky later this week if predicted showers materialize Tuesday and Wednesday. 

FIRE SAFETY EVENTS SCHEDULED
Fire safety events are being held across the state. There will be a parade in downtown Lexington tonight. Governor Steve Beshear has proclaimed this week as Fire Prevention Week in Kentucky. State Fire Marshal William Swope says home fires remain a persistent problem. Swope urges families to take some time for safety. He suggests making sure smoke detectors are working and that all family members are aware of the home escape plan.. The home escape plan should include at least two exits for every room in many cases that's a door and a window, and families should identify a place outside the home where they will gather after a fire. 
 
VOTING DEADLINE TODAY
A record number of people have registered to vote today is the deadline for those who haven't. People must register in person at their county clerks's office, if they're downloading an application from the Secretary of State's website it must be postmarked today.
