MORE DETAILS IN TRIGG FIRE DEATHS
A fire in Trigg county Wednesday left three children dead and investigators scrambling as their mother was found stabbed and in critical condition. Two of Kristy Frensley’s children were in high school the other in kindergarten, and all are dead. Frensley was attacked with a knife and was found alive by the pool; she underwent surgery and is expected to make a full recovery. Neighbors say the children had their throats slashed. State Police say they are questioning people but have no suspects at this time. Frensley recently went through a custody battle for her children.
PULLEN COMPLEX HOSTING FALL ON THE FARM
Fall On The Farm is this Saturday at Murray State University from 9 until 4. The fun-filled, child-centered family event will be held at MSU’s Pullen Farm Complex, located on the corner of Hwy. 94W and Doran Road. Fall on the Farm provides a fun, yet educational avenue for children and adults alike to share in traditional autumn activities typical in rural settings, while also learning how agriculture relates to other aspects of the community and daily life. Activities include a petting zoo, pony rides, corn maze, rubber duck races, pumpkin slingshot, giant slide, pumpkin painting and face painting. Areas have also been prepared where kids can test their driving skills on a pedal tractor course, jump into a corn pit, milk cows and make butter. Tours of the Murray State greenhouse will be available.
MORRIS PLEADS
Larry Morris pleaded guilty Thursday to an amended charge of terroristic threatening in Carlisle Circuit Court. Morris was charged last spring with intimidating a witness in the murder trial of his son. Cody Morris, 19, was sentenced in July to the maximum sentence of five years in prison for reckless homicide and five years for tampering with evidence in the death of Casey Lee Hall. Hall, 18, died roughly two weeks after Cody Morris returned from fighting in Iraq for a year. Larry Morris was sentenced to serve 12 months concurrent with his parole time.
LBL PLANS BURN
Land Between the Lakes managers plan to put almost 5,000 acres of the public recreation area to the torch. The burns will counter shade-tolerant species such as sugar maples in forested areas while promoting more wildlife-friendly, acorn-producing oaks, creating reduced competition for the oak seedlings after the burns.
BENTON MAN ARRESTED IN PARADE INCIDENT
A western Kentucky man says he was arrested for his political views but a police chief says it was Clarence J. Latham's behavior that got him in trouble with the law. The 78-year-old Benton man was charged over the weekend with disorderly conduct, but was released from the Christian County Jail after posting bond. Latham wanted to participate in the Trigg County Country Ham Festival Parade with a float featuring signs that promoted Democratic candidates. Authorities say the float also had offensive language. Parade organizers told Latham that he had to cover it up or he wouldn't be allowed to participate. Officials say Latham got loud and out of control when a police officer tried to persuade him to comply with the request.
VEGA SENTANCED
Sentencing took place in Paducah Thursday in U.S. District Court for the final defendant in the Mexican drug conspiracy case. 23-year-old Levi Mendivil Vega is already serving 15 years in an Arizona district for similar charges, was sentenced to an additional 15 years and 8 months in prison for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, which has a street value of more than 400,000 dollars.
MCCONNELL AND LUNSFORD TRADE BARBS
Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell said Thursday that Kentucky voters would make a terrible trade if they replaced him with a Democrat lacking the clout to deliver huge amounts of federal money he took credit for bringing back to the Bluegrass State. McConnell, the Senate's top-ranking Republican, touted his seniority accumulated over four terms in what has become a major theme in his toughest re-election fight, coming amid a national economic crisis and dismal approval ratings for President Bush, his longtime ally. Speaking to more than 300 activists Thursday night at a rally at the Madison County Fairgrounds, Democratic challenger Bruce Lunsford chided McConnell for having few accomplishments to back up his title as Republican leader.
ACROSS KENTUCKY
An accident took the life of a worker in Lawrenceburg. WLEX TV reports 34-year-old Donald "David" Soard was helping co-worker lift a three-thousand pound bundle of steel rebar. The load shifted and fell on top of Soard. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Incumbent Congressman John Yarmuth has doubled his lead on challenger Anne Northup. The latest WHAS 11/Survey USA poll shows Democrati Yarmuth leading Republican Anne Northup 57 to 41-percent. That's double his lead from the last poll a little over a month ago.
Kentucky can continue to pursue the domain names of internet gambling sites. State officials have said Kentucky is going after the sites because they believe the sites are illegal and drain money from drain money away from legitimate gambling like horse racing and the lottery. Thursday a Franklin Circuit judge denied a motion by Internet gambling websites to stop the states action. Now another court date has been set in November as the legal action proceeds.
Kentucky State Police are searching for another suspect in A 2002 double murder in Lincoln County. A judge has unsealed the indictment of a fifth suspect in the murders of Bo Upton and Ryan Shangraw. Now State Police are searching for 26-year-old Nicholas Mundy of Richmond. State Police say a reward is being offered for information.
