EMMA TALLIES STATE TITLE
As expected, Caldwell County freshman Emma Talley wrapped up the Indivual portion of the KHSAA Girls State golf Championship in Bowling Green., She finished with a 2 day total of 134, which was 9 strokes better than North Hardin's Lydia Gumm. Heath's Christine Cash tied for 10th with her 156, while her team finishd 9th with a 722. Glasgow claimed the team title with a 664, three shots better than West Jessimine...The boys golf championship begins today in Bowling Green as Marshall County trys for back-to-back state titles. Calloway County's Hunter Garrison will be competing for the individual title. Play is 18 holes today and 18 Saturday
SKYHAWKS EDGE PANTHERS
Dante Harold intercepted a pass with 2:42 remaining in the game and UT Martin held on for a 29-26 win over Eastern Illinois. Brandyn Young scored four touchdowns to pace the Skyhawks offense as Young finished with 213 of UTM's 301 yards on the ground. He scored from 3, 94, 8 and 15 yards with two scores coming in the fourth quarter.
RACERS READY FOR TECH
The Murray State Racers are going for back to back wins as they welcome Tennessee Tech to Stewart Stadium for a 3pm homecoming game tomorrow. Saturday’s matchup is the 74th meeting between the two schools. The Racers trail 40-32-1 in the all-time series which is even in games played in Murray, 17-17-1. The Golden Eagles will be the Homecoming opponent for the Racers for the 12th time. MSU is 5-6 in the previous 11 meetings. Racer head coach Matt Griffin knows limiting his team's distractions during homecoming weekend will be a challange. Airtime Saturday is 2:30 on 1340 WNBS where we get things started tomorrow with College Football Game Day at 11am on WNBS, and on WOFC at 11am you can hear top-ranked Oklahoma battle number five Texas.
TIGER HOMECOMING TONIGHT
It's also homecoming for the Murray High Tigers tonight as they welcome Fulton City to Ty Holland Stadium. A Tailgate reception for all alumni and Tiger friends will be held underneath the black and gold tent in the Ty Holland Stadium parking area from 6-7 p.m. During this time the 2008 MHS Football Hall of Fame inductees, W.L. "Dub" Polly , Ken Slaughter, and Andy Ryan will be on hand for the reception. This year’s MHS Football Hall of Fame inductees will be presented to the crowd at halftime of the game. A special pre-game ceremony will be held Friday night at 6:45 to honor the Homecoming Queen court and announce the 2008 Homecoming queen. EDGAR SIDELINED-KAVERMAN OUT AT SEMO
Southeast Missouri State men's basketball coach Scott Edgar has been placed on administrative leave after the university received a notice of allegations from the NCAA concerning possible major violations within the program. Edgar will retain the title of head coach, but an acting head coach will be appointed while the NCAA Division I Committee on Infractions hears the case and releases its findings. In addition, the university has relieved athletic director Don Kaverman of his duties and appointed associate athletic director Cindy Gannon interim director until a new AD is named.
CATS HOPING TO BEAT THE COACH
On Saturday, Kentucky gets their 16th crack at beating Steve Spurrier when they host South Carolina in a game that could go a long way toward determining the pecking order for the SEC's mid-tier teams. Kentucky is 4-1 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while South Carolina is 4-2 and 1-2. Last year, the Gamecocks won 38-23 in Columbia. Kickoff is set for 11:30 tomorrow morning. In other SEC games, it's Arkansas at Auburn, LSU at Florida, Tennessee at Georgia, Vanderbilt at Mississippi.
RACER SOCCER GOES FOR 4-0
The Murray State Soccer team looks to keep their Ohio Valley Conference record perfect with a 3 p.m. match today at Cutchin Field against Jacksonville State. After the JSU game, the Racers travel to Huntsville, Ala. for a Sunday non-conference game against Alabama A&M. The match begins at 1 p.m.
RACER VOLLEYBALL CONTINUES ROAD SWING
The Murray State volleyball team will conclude a four-match road trip this weekend when they travel to Tennessee Tech and Jacksonville State. The Racers will face Tennessee Tech, Friday, Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. and then continue on to battle with Jacksonville State, Saturday, Oct. 11 at 2 p.m.

The Philadelphia Phillies drew first blood in the National League Championship
Series on Thursday with a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers at Citizens
Bank Park. Chase Utley and Pat Burrell homered off Derek Lowe in the sixth
inning to provide the Phillies' runs in the comeback win. Cole Hamels picked
up his second victory of the postseason after giving up just two runs in seven
innings, and striking out eight, while Brad Lidge earned the save, his 44th in
as many opportunities this season for Philadelphia. Manny Ramirez collected
two hits and an RBI for the Dodgers.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven NLCS is on tap for Friday in Philadelphia, with
the Phillies starting Brett Myers against the Dodgers' Chad Billingsley. Airtime

Meanwhile, the American League Championship Series kicks off Friday, as two
American League East clubs, Boston and Tampa Bay, square off in St.
Petersburg. The Red Sox, defending World Series champions, won the AL wild
card and knocked off the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the Division Series.
The Rays took the division title with a franchise-high 97 wins and beat the
White Sox in their ALDS. The Red Sox will send Daisuke Matsuzaka to the hill
for the opener, while the Rays will counter with James Shields. Tampa Bay won
10 of the 18 contests between the clubs during the regular season. Due to Murray
High football, the game will not air on WNBS, but we will have game two tomorrow
night after the Racer game on 1340 WNBS.

The NHL season picked up again Thursday, after the league opened play in
Europe over the weekend. Highlighting the schedule was defending Stanley Cup
champion Detroit, which defeated Pittsburgh in six games to win the NHL title
and Thursday raised the banner to the rafters. The Red Wings, however,
opened their defense with a 3-2 loss at home to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Additionally, the Boston Bruins edged the Avalanche in Colorado, 5-4; San
Jose opened with a 4-1 win over Anaheim; and Vancouver blasted Calgary, 6-0.

The Dallas Cowboys won't discipline cornerback Adam Jones after he was
involved in an altercation with a personal security guard at a Dallas hotel
early Wednesday morning. Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips said Thursday he
expects Jones to play Sunday when Dallas visits Arizona, and owner Jerry Jones
said the NFL was informed of the incident that has been blown out of
proportion. Jerry Jones said Adam Jones and his personal security guard were
kidding around and got into an argument that went slightly over the line.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook missed practice again on
Thursday in preparation for the upcoming game against San Francisco.
Westbrook, who has been hampered by a sprained ankle suffered in the Week 3
victory over Pittsburgh, suffered fractured ribs in Sunday's 23-17 loss
against Washington and his status for this week's game remains uncertain.
In addition to Westbrook, guard Shawn Andrews, who has missed the past three
games with a back injury, defensive end Juqua Parker, who has a knee injury,
and safety J.R. Reed, who has been bothered by a troublesome hamstring and
ankle, did not practice. Wide receiver Reggie Brown also was absent from the
practice field with a groin injury. He had received only limited reps on
Wednesday. Wide receiver Kevin Curtis, who has yet to play this season after
undergoing surgery in August for a sports hernia, was a full participant in
practice for a second straight day.

Ravens middle linebacker Ray Lewis and Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney did
not participate in Thursday's practice, in advance of Sunday's contest between
the clubs in Indianapolis. Lewis is battling a knee problem and has not
practiced either day this week. The 13-year veteran has posted 29 tackles in
four games this season. Freeney also sat out Wednesday and Thursday while
working through a groin problem. The 28-year-old has 10 tackles, three sacks
and two forced fumbles in four contests. In addition, Colts cornerback Bob
Sanders did not participate in Thursday's practice with a knee injury.
Sanders, the fifth-year pro, has only played in two games this season,
tallying 13 tackles. With the Titans off this weekm, you can hear the Ravens and
the Colts battle Sunday at 11:30 on ESPN 1130, The Office.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Brian Griese missed practice for the second
straight day Thursday due to a right elbow injury, which made Jeff Garcia the
favorite to start under center against the Panthers on Sunday. Bucs head coach
Jon Gruden was pleased with what he saw from Garcia, who took the majority of
snaps with the first-team offense, and said the San Jose State product would
be the team's signal caller if Griese's elbow doesn't improve.

Detroit Lions quarterback Jon Kitna missed a second straight practice on
Thursday with a bad back, leaving his status for Sunday's upcoming showdown
with the Minnesota Vikings up in the air. Kitna had to leave Sunday's 34-7
loss to Chicago because of back spasms. Dan Orlovsky replaced the veteran
signal-caller. Kitna has completed 68-of-120 passes for 758 yards with five
touchdowns and five interceptions for the winless Lions (0-4) this season.
=== COLLEGE FOOTBALL ===
A key ACC matchup took place Thursday, with 21st-ranked Wake Forest
squeaking by Clemson, 12-7, at home. Wake Forest improved to 4-1 while Clemson
-- which was ranked earlier this season -- fell to 3-3. Clemson had won the
last two meetings. Riley Skinner threw for 186 yards and a touchdown on 22-
of-34 passing for Wake Forest, and also added 73 yards on the ground.
